Back pain relief through losing weight...

Sampath has been working in the IT industry since 2010. Irregular work timings, his love for sweets and junk food, had all become part of his daily routine. A couple of years into the industry, he saw himself expand in inches and an increase in weight that he hadn’t seen earlier. He says, “Every time, I see a mail titled, Sweets at my desk, I used to rush and have them in a hurry”. In 2016 he had severe back ache and on consultation, doctors suggested doing a few exercises for the back. He was recommended to reduce weight - which "may" alleviate his pain. He was also suggested to undergo a surgery for his back, which he clearly didn't want to do. Driven by a goal to avoid a surgery, he started working out. Like most people, after a couple of weeks, when he started feeling better, he began to ignore his workout. This continued for a couple of years and in 2019, when he did his Annual health check-up, his weight was 95Kgs and he had Grade-1 fatty liver, and his back pain was at its worst. Playing with his 3 year old daughter, had become increasingly difficult. “That was when I have decided to reduce my weight and I started working out seriously. But workouts alone, didn’t give me the results that I was looking for, as I could reduce only 4kgs in 6 months.” he says. “During that time, I got to know about Wellness Quotient community through a friend”. His coach helped him understand that the foundation of good health is not just exercising but also includes proper nutrition, good lifestyle habits and a positive attitude. They designed a healthy weight- loss program which included all these parameters. “With the help of my coach and the community, I lost close to 20kgs in 6 months.” he adds. “I enjoy my workouts now and live pain-free. My liver function test results are normal now. I have become more energetic and productive. During this journey I have developed good eating habits. Thanks to Wellness Quotient community - not just for the weight that I have lost, but for gifting me my life, back.

Managing Weight Needs Focus

Like most IT professionals in Bangalore, owing to the sedentary lifestyle, Prasanna never really worked out and had an unhealthy diet. He didn't think much about it till he was 85 kg, but when he reached 95 kg, it was alarming. By that time, he had developed already developed multiple health conditions like thyroid, hormonal imbalance, fatty liver, scalp psoriasis, gout to name a few. He knew something had to change. But he didn't know where to start. He had already tried various internet based weight loss approaches, but none of them were long lasting. It was only later when he started taking a holistic approach towards it that he started getting permanent results. Along with creating a calorie budget and necessary supplementation, he joined a cycling community with some of his friends. Now year and a half later, he is happy, energetic and 15 kg lighter! He has always been an outdoors person and now he can do all that his heart desires. "The key is you got to commit to it first," he says. "You got to be at a point where enough is enough. You got to commit to doing it and then you've got to stick with it and be consistent."

Slim & Trim Despite Life - An Impactful Weight Loss Anecdote

Hi, I am Sushma, born and brought up in Bangalore. I have been working in the IT industry since 11 years. I would like to share my story of losing excess weight of 12-15 kgs and being fit, getting energetic & looking younger.

I was slim throughout my childhood until college days, where I was able to maintain my weight at around 58 kg. Once I joined work, my lifestyle changed - sleeping late, eating whatever is available, leading a sedentary lifestyle - led me to gradually put on weight over a period of 2-3 yrs without even realizing it. That's when I was also diagnosed with thyroid and doctor said I need to take care of my health and lose weight. I did yoga, exercise, crash diet, reduced my calorie intake etc., but could not follow any of them for a long duration, lost motivation in-between and was unable to get into any rhythm.

Though I lost 2-3 kgs by implementing the above process, it bounced back in no time. Meanwhile, I gave birth to my son and my weight became 74kgs - my face was chubby and fat was spread all over my body. I was unhappy but was at my wit’s end.

That's when I came across WQ community through my husband. I heard about Swati, who was an IT Engineer and a mother of two children, being able to lose weight and get fit.

This gave me a lot of inspiration and motivation - this time I wanted to do it right and get it done once for all. With the help of my WQ Coach, I learnt about good habits like dinner before 7, how to avoid sugar cravings, how to control mind tricks with mood swings, making exercise a part of my lifestyle and plenty other conscious lifestyle changes… !

Over a period of 6 months, I lost all my extra weight and was back to my college days’ weight of 58kg. Now I have been stable at this weight since 6 months which is the real victory.

I look younger, healthy and feel much more energetic now. I have gained so much practical knowledge about health that I could help my entire family & friends to become fitter & look younger.

Health is the biggest gift that we can offer to someone and I am elated to be able to do so !

Body After Baby - Losing Weight Post Pregnancy

Swati is originally from Moradabad, UP and used to work in the IT Industry in Bangalore. She shares her experience of losing 25 kgs of weight post her second delivery.

She has a daughter who is 5 years old and a son of 2 years. After her first delivery, she could only lose 6-7 kgs of weight because that time she was working and could not balance her work, exercise and diet. She loves to eat biscuits, chocolates, cakes and all the junk food one can think of.

However, as she wanted to lose weight after her second delivery, through one of her friends, she came to know about the Wellness Quotient community. Eventually, she became a part of it and got to know about the holistic approach of nutrition, combined with exercise and sleep and handling stress factor in life.

Using this approach, she could eke out a structured exercise program for herself, monitor her unstructured activities, control her diet and drastically reduce junk food consumption because she understood that those were the empty calories that is harming her body immensely.

Over a period of 3-4 months, her friends started noticing that she was losing weight, as by that time she had already lost around 10 kgs. She continued on her journey of doing the right things such as controlling her diet, working out, monitoring her steps, sleeping around 6-7 hours every night and eventually, over a period of 10-12 months, she could reduce around 25 kgs!

She recalls that earlier also, she was able to lose some weight, but that used to get reversed shortly after. But this time, because of the holistic approach she had taken, even after 2 years, she is able to maintain her weight. She credits the Wellness Quotient community for her victory.

My Weight loss is my wellness gain

My name is Kanishka More. I used to tell people, "Losing weight is so easy. I have done it so many times"! The only problem was... every time I lost a certain amount of weight, I'd put it right back on! I tried so many things. Crash diets, GM diet, Yoga and what not. With all of these I would lose 2-3 kgs. But I could not follow up for long enough and my energy level was reduced due to the crash diets. Whichever regime I followed, the moment I stopped it I would start over eating.

I knew that diet and lifestyle changes are important for losing weight in a healthy manner. So when I saw the benefits that other people in the Wellness Quotient community had got, I was very excited to start their program. I began a weight management program and I was able to shed 7 kgs in 4 months. The exciting thing was that my fat levels came down from 12 kgs to 9 kgs!

I am feeling so happy with the results of the program, fittingly called "The WOW program". I feel more energetic, active and younger looking. When my colleagues told me that my daughter and I look like sisters, I thought that was the best compliment I could ever get!
